Storing winter clothing properly at the end of the season helps preserve your garments and keeps your space organized. Start by washing or dry cleaning all items—clean clothing is less likely to attract pests and prevents stains from setting during storage. Make sure everything is completely dry before packing to avoid mildew. Next, sort through your winter wardrobe and donate anything you no longer wear. Most items, especially knits and sweaters, should be folded rather than hung to prevent stretching, while heavier coats can be hung on sturdy wooden or padded hangers inside breathable garment bags. Store your clothing in airtight plastic bins or fabric containers, avoiding cardboard, which can attract moisture and insects. To protect against moths, use cedar blocks or lavender sachets, but keep them from touching the fabric directly. Finally, label each container for easy unpacking and keep your stored items in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight—such as under a bed, in a closet, or in an attic that stays reasonably temperate. Proper storage not only extends the life of your clothes but makes transitioning between seasons much smoother.
